Garage door won’t open or close.
Usually power, the remote, or a spring or cable that has let go. How to tell which, and what to do next.

What it usually means
A door that won’t move at all, with the opener silent, is usually power or the remote. A door that starts, strains and stops is usually the opener working against a door that has lost its balance. A door that is crooked, or stuck part-way, usually has a broken cable or spring.
What to do right now
Stop if the door is crooked or stuck part-way
- Check the opener has power and the wall button works.
- Try a fresh battery in the remote.
- If the door is crooked, part-open or feels very heavy, stop using it and the opener, keep people and cars clear, and call us.
- Don’t pull the manual release on a door that looks wrong: it can drop.
SafetyGarage door springs and cables are under extreme tension. Adjusting or releasing them is a job for a trained technician.
What we do
We check the springs, cables, rollers and tracks before the opener, because an opener can only move a door that is in balance. Most causes are fixed on the first visit; if a part is needed we quote it on the spot.
